The Daily Wave Routine

Twice a day, every day. The routine is boring on purpose — that's why it works. Here's the rhythm we recommend for wavers building from week 1 through year 1.

Morning — 5 to 8 minutes

  • Shower with warm (not hot) water; conditioner only if your hair runs dry
  • Towel-pat — never towel-rub
  • Apply a dime-sized drop of wave butter or pomade to the palm, work through with fingers, then comb through with the Curved Wave Comb following the grain of the pattern
  • Brush for 3–5 minutes with the Medium Wave Brush — Soft for finishing, Medium for daily work, Hard for wolfing sessions
  • Lay down with a satin durag for the day if you're still in build phase; otherwise let the waves breathe

Evening — 5 minutes

  • Light moisturizer if your scalp feels tight — a thin layer beats a thick one
  • Comb through with the curved comb, then brush 3–5 minutes following the pattern
  • Tie down with a fresh satin durag (rotate from the 4-pack so the inside stays clean)
  • Eight hours of sleep with the durag in place is doing more work than any single product

Once a week

  • Deep wash with a clarifying shampoo — strips product buildup that softens definition
  • Deep condition for 10 minutes
  • Brush 10 full minutes after towel-dry — this is the session that compounds
  • Rotate to a clean durag every night for the week

Wolfing — week 4 onward

Wolfing means skipping the cut to let the hair grow into deeper waves. The brush sessions get longer (10–15 minutes) and the hard brush gets daily use. The pattern flattens and deepens. When you finally cut, the waves spring back tighter than ever. The Elite Wolfing Kit pairs the Copper Heritage Comb, the Hard Wave Brush, and a satin durag for the long phase.

What kills waves

  • Skipping evening brush more than two days a week
  • Heat — hot showers and blow drying break the pattern
  • Sleeping without a durag once you're past the early phase
  • Switching products every week — your scalp needs 3–4 weeks to react to anything
  • Tight beanies during the day — flatten the pattern in the wrong direction
